1. Binh Lieu (Quang Ninh)
Distance: About 255 km from Hanoi.
Binh Lieu is located in the northeastern border region of Quang Ninh province, with majestic mountain landscapes, valleys, border markers and winding roads between the clouds and sky, making this place known as a "miniature Sapa".
Visitors to Binh Lieu can climb the "dinosaur spine" to see the reed fields in late autumn - early winter, and admire the small terraced fields between rocky mountains and pine forests. Suitable for groups of friends and families who want to change the space away from the city, find a sense of quiet and nature. The best time is around October - December when the reeds bloom white on the hillsides or at the end of July when the rice is ripe.
Note: the road to Binh Lieu has winding mountain passes and roads, so if you drive a motorbike or car yourself, you need to carefully check the vehicle and steering wheel.
2. Ha Giang (Ha Giang Province)
Distance: Approximately 280–300 km from Hanoi.
Ha Giang – the northernmost point of Vietnam – is famous for its winding roads, rocky plateaus, many ethnic minorities and unique culture. The landscape here is cat-eared limestone mountains, the green Nho Que River, and the buckwheat flower season in October–November.
Traveling to Ha Giang is suitable for those who love backpacking, adventure and want to conquer high points, such as Ma Pi Lang Pass, Lung Cu. The weather here can also be colder than Hanoi so you need to prepare warm clothes.
The journey from Hanoi will take about 6–8 hours or more depending on the route, as there are many mountain passes.
If you want to experience more, you can combine Ha Giang with the “Ha Giang Loop” route to go around the highland districts.
3. Ta Xua (Son La)
Distance: About 230 km from Hanoi.
Ta Xua is located in Son La province, famous for its sea of clouds on the mountains when it is cold, especially in winter. The road to Ta Xua has very beautiful scenery: pine forests, hills and wide views.
Here you can hunt clouds, watch the sunrise on the plateau, or take a light walk in the middle of nature. Because the road up has many curves and slopes, it is suitable for those who have experience driving motorbikes or choose cars. Ta Xua is an ideal choice if you are looking for a place that is still more wild than the big tourist areas, wanting to "change the wind" from Hanoi on a weekend.
4. Da Lat (Lam Dong)
Distance: About 1,100 km or more from Hanoi
Da Lat – the city of fog, flowers and pine forests – is located in Lam Vien plateau, Lam Dong province. With a cool climate all year round, pine hills, valleys, tea hills and ancient French villas, Da Lat is a prominent resort.
Tourists coming to Da Lat can relax, walk around Xuan Huong Lake, visit Prenn Waterfall, Flower Garden, or climb Langbiang Mountain, experience remote garden coffee.
When departing from Hanoi, the journey is long - you should choose a plane to Lien Khuong Airport (Lam Dong) then car or bus to the center. Because if you go by road, it will take a long time.
Dalat is suitable for families, couples or those who want to travel from the North to the South, looking for a peaceful space and mild weather.
5. Mang Den (Kon Plông, Kon Tum)
Distance: About 960–1100 km from Hanoi.
Mang Den – an eco-tourism area located in the Kon Tum highlands, also known as “the second Da Lat of the Central Highlands” because of its cool climate, pine forests, lakes, waterfalls and many natural-style homestays.
Coming here, you will be immersed in nature: walking in the forest, watching the large lake, cycling around the valley or enjoying coffee in the morning mist. Because this place is still quite wild, the experience will be simple, close to nature.
The journey from Hanoi will be quite long, so you can consider flying to Quy Nhon, Pleiku or a nearby airport and then take a bus, depending on your schedule.
Mang Den is suitable for those who seek seclusion, quiet and refreshment amidst the nature of the Central Highlands.
6. Hai Phong
Distance: About 110–120 km from Hanoi.
Hai Phong – a major port city in the North with a mix of dynamic urban and nearby beach and island tourist attractions. If you depart from Hanoi, it only takes about 1.5–2 hours drive or bus to get there.
You can visit the city center, eat seafood, or continue to the islands such as Cat Ba, Lan Ha Bay... This is a flexible choice for a short trip.
Hai Phong is suitable when you want to change the atmosphere from Hanoi without having to travel too far, or combine it with a Northern sea itinerary: sea, islands, ports, seafood.
7. Moc Chau (Son La)
Distance: About 190–200 km from Hanoi.
Moc Chau – a lush green plateau with vast tea hills, pine forests, strawberry gardens and many beautiful valleys in the Northwest region. In the season of white plum blossoms, canola flowers, buckwheat flowers… this place becomes an extremely hot check-in spot.
From Hanoi, it only takes about 4-5 hours to get to Moc Chau by car or motorbike. This is a great choice for a short weekend getaway. Ninh Binh is only a 1.5–2 hour drive from Hanoi, making it ideal for a day trip or short break. This is a choice “right next to” Hanoi but still feels far away.
